..."on the first month we used it I fell pregnant"

I didn't use Preseed lubricant but I used Conceive Plus fertility-friendly lubricant which is similar I believe. And on the first month we used it I fell pregnant - no idea whether it was this that particularly did the trick, but I am somewhat 'dryer' than other women so there's a chance it helped. Is fertility-friendly lubricant like Conceive Plus FDA approved?

Fertility-friendly lubricants like Conceive Plus are regulated as medical devices by the FDA and must meet safety standards. While they are not prescription products, they are specifically formulated to be pH-balanced and isotonic to support sperm motility, unlike regular lubricants which can harm sperm. You can verify FDA clearance status on the manufacturer's website or the FDA database.

Can using fertility lubricant help with vaginal dryness during conception attempts?

Yes, fertility-friendly lubricants are designed to address vaginal dryness while maintaining an environment suitable for sperm survival and movement. Unlike regular lubricants, fertility-specific products have a pH and osmolality similar to cervical fluid, making them a safer choice when trying to conceive. If you experience persistent dryness, it's worth discussing with your fertility specialist or gynecologist.

What's the difference between regular lubricant and fertility-friendly lubricant?

Regular lubricants often contain ingredients that can harm sperm motility and may have a pH level incompatible with conception attempts. Fertility-friendly lubricants are specifically formulated to be sperm-safe, with a pH and osmolality that mimics natural cervical fluid. Products like Conceive Plus and Preseed have been studied for their compatibility with sperm function.

Does the American Society for Reproductive Medicine recommend using fertility lubricant?

The ASRM acknowledges that certain lubricants can negatively impact sperm motility, and fertility-specific lubricants are considered a safer alternative when needed. However, the ASRM's primary recommendation is to have regular intercourse during the fertile window, with or without lubricant. If you're considering fertility lubricant, discuss it with your fertility clinic to ensure it's appropriate for your situation.

Will my fertility insurance cover fertility-friendly lubricants?

Most standard health insurance plans do not cover fertility lubricants as they are considered over-the-counter products rather than prescription fertility treatments. However, some flexible spending accounts (FSA) or health savings accounts (HSA) may allow you to use pre-tax dollars for these purchases—check with your plan administrator. If you're undergoing fertility treatment at a clinic, ask if they have sample products or recommendations.

How should I use fertility lubricant correctly when trying to conceive?

Apply a small amount of fertility-friendly lubricant to the vulva and/or penis before intercourse, similar to how you would use regular lubricant. Use only what's necessary to reduce friction, as excess lubricant can dilute cervical fluid and potentially interfere with sperm transport. For best results, focus on having intercourse during your fertile window (typically 5 days before and the day of ovulation).

Can fertility lubricant guarantee pregnancy?

No fertility lubricant can guarantee pregnancy—conception depends on many factors including timing, ovulation, sperm quality, and overall reproductive health. While fertility-friendly lubricants may help remove a barrier (like vaginal dryness) that could interfere with conception, they are a supportive tool rather than a treatment. If you've been trying to conceive for over a year (or 6 months if over 35), consult a fertility specialist for a comprehensive evaluation.
